However, other breeding associations have also recognized other colors such as red point, cream point, fawn point, tortie point, lynx point and cinnamon point as Siamese cats.

When Siamese are born, they are all white. Kept warm inside the womb, the cold has not yet triggered the albino gene that causes color points. After they are born their color changes due to the temperature gradient of their bodies. The colder an area of their body is, the darker it turns, thus extremities are the darkest and the trunk is lighter.
Siamese Cat Base Coat: Kittens
A base coat is the color “under the white” or of the white. It is kind of like comparing eggshell white to off white. It is not easy at all. You almost always have to have one of each base coat to decide what you kitten is and even then it is only an educated guess.
It is important to know what your kitten is if you plan to breed or show because chocolate points are more rare and seal points are usually only shown for up to a year because of the color darkening. Like the seals and chocolates, lilac points have a blue base and the blue points have a cream base.

Adult Siamese darken as the age. They also darken because of various temperature changes in their environment. For example a cat kept outdoors will usually be darker then a cat kept indoors. Every point color darkens with age but seals and blues darken much more then the chocolates and lilacs. There is nothing you can do to stop darkening but you can slow it down by keeping you cat indoors and on a proper diet. A proper diet always makes for a better, healthier coat.

The most characteristic feature of the Siamese cat is the color points that are present on its body. The entire coat of the Siamese cat is light in color however; there are points on the coat that are darker such as the face, tail, paws and the ears.
Studies have shown that these points of coloration are due to the imbalance between various genes that control pigmentation, increasing the color at certain points of the coat. Siamese cat appear to be extremely elegant with a sophisticated slender body which is fairly long.
The head tapers into a wedge shape, with beautiful large almond shaped slanting eyes and pointed ears. All these features put together with the gorgeous pattern on its body makes the Siamese cat one of the best looking in the feline breed.
